October, 2010

- November 4th I will play a gig at the Baked Potato with Neal Fountain on bass and Jeff Sipe on drums - this is one of the few chances to hear
hear this trio playing live on the west coast. To quote my friend Raju: "Don't miss out and cry later..."
- On November 21st we will play at the Abstract Logix festival in Raleigh, North Carolina. This will be an amazing festival with a great line up.
Again: Don't miss out and...

- I wanted to thank everyone involved in our tour to India, so: Thank YOU!

- The recordings with FAT went very well - I am already working on this project. We only had one day in the studio and therefore concentrated mostly on the drums. Guitars and (some) bass parts will be overdubbed at home. I will keep you posted about the progress.

- Recently I composed and recorded a song for Gary Husband's upcoming Jazz/Rock album Volume 2. Can't wait to hear the finished result, with Gary palying drums on it!

Back to work...

July, 2010

Just a quick update...

- new gigs announced - India Tour with Sipe and Fountain
- and then to Austria to record and gig with FAT!
FAT stands for "Fabulous Austrian Trio" and it features Raphael Preuschl on bass and Herbert Pirker on drums.
You might remember their names from my album "[sic]" - they actually played on a lot of tracks on this one.
I am definitely looking forward to this!!!

April, 2010

Yes, it has been a long time since I updated the site...here are some recent news:

- Alex Machacek interview in GuitarPlayer magazine (May issue)
and here is a link to the "outtakes" of the interview:
http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/alex-machacek-feature/February-2010/108373

- Normalizer 2:

I finished my version and I entitled it "24 Tales" .

Did I already mention that you can click on the cover to buy this album?

Since Marco gave this solo to several composers (Trey Gunn, John Czajkowski, Mike Keneally, Mario Brinkmann, Phi Yan-Zeek
and Marco himself) who will release their versions individually it only made sense to come up with a different title than "Normalizer2".

And here is a video that I did for GuitarPlayerTV - showing one of the compositional approaches:

more to come soon, promised!

July, 2009

MSM Schmidt: I recorded 2 tracks for this project featuring Scott Kinsey, Steve Tavaglione, Jimmy Haslip and Simon Phillips;

- UKZ: We played a show in NY in January and the EP "Radiation" is now available for sale.
More details about the EP and a video can be found on the music page.

- Fractal Audio: I am now using the Axe FX Ultra - this is a great piece of gear which already served me well on the Planet X tour,
the UKZ "One City World Tour" and in my home studio as well.

August, 2008

It's been a while since I updated my website, so here we go:

- At the end of June I did a workshop for a week at ToneZone in Cary, North Carolina. Thanks again to Derek Butler for having me.
The flight from LA to North Carolina was an absolute nightmare - it only took 26 (!) hours to get there - traveling is sooooo much fun.

- After this workshop I played 3 gigs with Jeff Sipe and Neal Fountain. We record all those gigs and the last one will be very soon available
for as digital download at Abstract Logix.
Originally there was a DVD shoot of the original "Improvision" trio planned, but Matt Garrison had to cancel. We might do this at a later point.
Neal Fountain helped us out and man, what a pleasant surprise - he is a great player and a great guy to hang with!

- At the first gig in Wilmington I met Daniel Klein from Port City Amplification who told me about the new speaker cabinets he is building and asked me if I wanted to try one out. I did and I was blown away. It was a 2x12 cabinet (the OS version) and it sounded HUGE! Guess what, now have one at home and I can't recommend those cabinets highly enough. Check out the Port City website.

- In May I got an endorsement from Godin Guitars - I am now the proud owner of a Freeway SA - which is a wonderful guitar that I will use as much as possible. I already used it on an instructional DVD that I did for LickLibrary in May.

- UKZ: We finally met! In July we rehearsed for 2 days in Los Angeles.

- I played 2 gigs with the Virgil Donati band (one in May and another one in July). The music is very challenging but also fun to play. Virgil put up to short clips of those shows on YouTube.

- Tomorrow I am going to Austria for 2 weeks. I will teach at a summer seminar in Schoenbach.

- Normalizer 2 is still in the works. I finished a couple of tracks last week and will continue working on this as soon as I am back from Europe.

April, 2008

- Virgil Donati invited me to join his band - we will play our first gig on May 3rd at the Baked Potato (see dates)

- in January I did some weblessons for LickLibrary. In these lessons I covered a couple of concepts for chord voicings.

- Here is a YouTube clip from the gig with Kai Eckhardt and Marco Minnemann at the Baked Potato.
The video was shot in "night mode" which is the reason why we are all a bit green.

- I am still working on Marco Minnemann's Normalizer 2 project ...This CD should be finished and released this year.
I'll keep you updated about this...

- UKZ: ...in the works...

- in May I will do an educational DVD for LickLibrary.
